A Balcony Above the Maurienne

The Col du Chaussy sits at 1,540 metres above the hamlet of Montpascal, in the commune of La Tour-en-Maurienne, and is one of the most striking viewpoints over the Maurienne valley. The camera frames a broad, gently sloping alpine pasture scattered with boulders and ringed by conifer forest, with a picnic area in the foreground.

The Lacets de Montvernier Approach

The road up from the valley climbs the famous Lacets de Montvernier, a tight stack of hairpin bends clinging to a cliff face that became known worldwide after the Tour de France passed this way. Road cyclists, motorcyclists and walkers rank it among the most spectacular roads in the Alps.

Espace Nordique du Grand Coin

The open ground in view belongs to the Espace Nordique du Grand Coin, with around 70 km of cross-country ski trails plus snowshoe and sledging routes in winter, and hiking, trail running, mountain biking and paragliding in summer. The Auberge du Chaussy inn welcomes visitors all year, and the webcam is run by the volunteer association #MauriennisezVous.
