Rising to 4,784 feet (1,458 m), Brasstown Bald is the loftiest natural summit in the state of Georgia. It crowns the southern Appalachians in the far north of the state, where the Blue Ridge escarpment gives way to a sea of rolling peaks and deep, wooded coves.

The camera commands a sweeping view across countless forested ridgelines that fade in blue-grey layers toward the horizon. From this exposed summit the sightlines stretch for miles, taking in distant valleys, scattered settlements, and the undulating crests of the southern Appalachian Mountains.

Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest

The slopes below belong to the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, a vast expanse of temperate hardwood and conifer woodland. These mountains shelter a rich diversity of plant and wildlife and feed the headwaters of rivers that flow far across the southeastern United States.

A US Forest Service Lookout

Operated by the US Forest Service, the summit hosts a visitor center and observation deck that draw visitors seeking its panoramic horizons. The vantage point has long served as a natural lookout over the surrounding wilderness, offering one of the most expansive perspectives in the region.
