The West Somerset Railway
The West Somerset Railway is the longest standard-gauge heritage line in England, running for over twenty miles between Bishops Lydeard and the coast at Minehead. Williton sits near the middle of the route and is home to the railway's diesel restoration depot.
What the camera shows
This view from Williton Station looks toward Bishops Lydeard, framing the gated level crossing, the original signal box and the stone-faced platform. Services generally arrive from the right and depart to the left, giving a clear line of sight along the single track.
Heritage & preservation
Reopened by volunteers in 1976, the line marks fifty years of preservation in 2026. Restored Victorian buildings, semaphore signals and period advertising give the platform its timeless character.
Visiting Williton
