The West Somerset Railway
Running for some twenty miles between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead, the West Somerset Railway is the longest standard-gauge heritage railway in England. Watchet is one of its most picturesque stops, where the line threads between the harbour and the town.
The View from Watchet
The camera looks along the railway track as it curves past a station platform and the rooftops of the old harbour town. Heritage carriages and freight wagons often stand within the frame, with the streets of Watchet rising on the hillside beyond.
A Living Heritage Line
Restored steam and diesel locomotives haul vintage rolling stock along this preserved line, recreating the atmosphere of Britain's golden age of rail. The service is run largely by volunteers dedicated to keeping the railway alive.
Watchet & Its Maritime Past
Once a busy port, Watchet now welcomes visitors to its marina, museums and the Watchet Visitor Centre & Boat Museum, which hosts this camera and celebrates the town's seafaring story.
