This webcam overlooks the ferry harbor of Den Helder, the departure point for the TESO ferry to Texel, the largest of the Dutch Wadden Islands. The crossing over the Marsdiep is one of the busiest short-sea ferry routes in the Netherlands.

A Working Naval Port

Den Helder is home to the main base of the Royal Netherlands Navy, and the camera frequently frames grey-hulled warships alongside civilian ferries, cranes and the industrial quays that make this a genuine working harbor.

Marsdiep and the Wadden Sea

Beyond the terminal stretches the Marsdiep, the strait separating the mainland from Texel and the gateway to the UNESCO-listed Wadden Sea. Strong tidal currents and shifting sandbanks shape this stretch of the North Sea coast.
