About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
An Underwater Window onto the Seals
This live camera is submerged inside the Ecomare seal basin on the island of Texel, offering a viewpoint impossible to reach from the poolside. Visitors watch the animals from below as they propel themselves with fluid sweeps of their hind flippers, hover mid-water and inspect the camera with obvious curiosity.
The Resident Group
The basin is home to a permanent group of harbour seals alongside a single ringed seal. Each animal lives here because a chronic condition or a life born in captivity means it could not survive in the open sea, so the pool has become their lasting home.
A Sanctuary for Marine Life
Ecomare is a nature centre and seal rescue on Texel dedicated to the Wadden Sea and North Sea. Beyond this basin the centre cares for rehabilitating seals and porpoises, combining animal welfare with public education about the surrounding coastal ecosystem.
What You Will See
The animals are fed several times throughout the day, and an enrichment bubble screen is occasionally switched on, drawing playful bursts of activity. Between feedings the seals rest, patrol the basin and swim in unhurried loops, making every visit a little different.
