A Bridge Shaped Like a Sea Dragon
The Sanxiantai Bridge is an eight-arch pedestrian crossing that undulates like a serpent from the Taiwanese mainland toward the offshore islet. Completed in 1987, its rolling silhouette has made it one of the most photographed landmarks along the East Coast National Scenic Area.
An Island Shaped by the Sea
The islet itself is built from volcanic breccia, a rock once part of a headland before centuries of wave action severed its connection to the shore. Weathered cliffs, sea caves, and tidal potholes ring the coastline, evidence of the relentless erosion that carved this coast.
The Legend of Three Immortals
Local legend holds that three Taoist immortals once rested on the island's rocks, leaving behind footprint-like impressions that gave Sanxiantai โ "Terrace of the Three Immortals" โ its name. The story remains a beloved part of the region's folklore.
A Trail Around the Coast
A roughly 1.57-kilometer path circles the approximately 22-hectare island, leading walkers past coral-fringed waters, rugged headlands, and panoramic views back toward the arching bridge and the mainland coast.
