Shanyuan Bay Crescent Beach & Reef
OnlineThe crescent sweep of Shanyuan Bay unfurls along Taiwan's east coast, where a gently shelving ribbon of fine sand meets the Pacific Ocean. Offshore, a living coral reef breaks the swell into rolling lines of whitewater, while coconut palms and a green headland frame the shore. This is the longest sandy beach on the island's eastern coastline.

A Crescent of Fine Sand
Stretching some 1.5 kilometres along Taiwan's east coast, Shanyuan Bay forms a graceful half-moon of fine, gently sloping sand. It is widely regarded as the longest sandy beach on the island's eastern coastline, backed by green headlands and clusters of coconut palms.
Coral Reef & Sheltered Waters
A complete coral reef community lies just offshore, shielding the bay from strong undertow and making its calm, sheltered waters a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling. The reef shapes the incoming swell into the steady lines of surf that fan across the bay.
Indigenous Heritage of Fudafudak
The bay sits within the homeland of three Amis tribes โ Jialulan, Citong and Dulan โ who call it "Fudafudak", meaning sparkling. Traditional gathering and ceremonies have long been tied to this shore, and the nearby Fushan archaeological site preserves traces of the prehistoric Beinan culture.
Visiting Shanyuan Bay
Set on Provincial Highway 11 in Beinan Township, the bay lies just 12 kilometres from downtown Taitung โ a fifteen-minute drive that also passes the rock formations of Xiaoyeliu.
