A High Apennine Plateau
The view takes in Prato della Cipolla, a wide upland meadow perched at 1585 metres in the eastern Ligurian Apennines. Dominated by the silhouettes of Monte Bue and Monte Maggiorasca, the plateau opens onto rolling pastures fringed by conifer woodland and crossed by gentle gravel tracks.
A Rare Mountain Microclimate
This plateau shelters one of the most significant peat bogs of the Ligurian Apennines, sustained by a singular microclimate found nowhere else in the range. The wetland and its surrounding meadows form a fragile habitat of considerable ecological value within the wider massif.
Gateway to the Ski Area
The Rocca d'Aveto - Prato Cipolla chairlift carries visitors up to the plateau, where the namesake mountain refuge offers food and shelter. A short walk from the upper station, the site is a popular base for hikers and skiers exploring the Santo Stefano d'Aveto highlands.
