Mad River Glen Single Chair
OnlineThis live view overlooks the historic Single Chair at the base of Mad River Glen, with the wooded slope of General Stark Mountain rising beyond the lift towers. Running since 1948, the chair was among the first lifts built at this skier-owned cooperative, still prized for its rugged, tree-lined terrain.

A Living Piece of Ski History
The Single Chair began carrying skiers up General Stark Mountain on December 11, 1948, making it one of the oldest continuously operating lifts in North America. Its slow, steady climb through the trees has become a signature experience for generations of visitors to this corner of the Green Mountains.
A Skier-Owned Mountain
Since 1995, Mad River Glen has been run by the Mad River Glen Cooperative, formed when a group of skiers purchased the resort to keep it independent. That community ownership shaped a mountain where terrain and tradition take precedence over commercial development, earning it a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
Base Area at Fayston
The camera sits near the loading deck of the Single Chair, roughly 1,600 feet above sea level, framed by the dense forest of the Mad River Valley. From here the lift line climbs toward the summit, the Sunnyside Double, and other landmarks scattered across the mountain's historic trail network.
