The Homosassa headspring is unique among Florida's springs: three separate vents, each with a different salinity and mineral profile, blend together in the basin before flowing down the spring run toward the Homosassa River. This mix creates a rare habitat supporting both freshwater and saltwater fish species side by side.

A Refuge for West Indian Manatees

Warm, spring-fed waters make this basin a critical haven for West Indian Manatees, who rely on its constant temperature to survive. The park, operated in partnership with Save the Manatee Club, is one of the best-known sanctuaries for observing these gentle giants in a protected, natural setting.
