The Great Eddy Covered Bridge

Also known as the Village or Big Eddy bridge, this historic lattice-truss span carries Bridge Street across the Mad River in the heart of Waitsfield. Its rust-red plank siding and shingled roof shelter a single lane still open to traffic, a rare working survivor of Vermont's covered-bridge heritage.

The Mad River

Below the deck, the clear Mad River tumbles over a boulder-strewn bed, forming the deep pool that gives the bridge its name. The river is a favorite for anglers, paddlers, and swimmers drawn to its refreshing mountain waters.
