A Forest-Ringed Reservoir
Emei Lake, officially the Dapu Reservoir, fills a broad valley with still, jade-green water mirroring the surrounding ridgelines. The dense subtropical woodland that wraps the shoreline gives the basin its secluded, restorative character, broken only by the occasional electric pleasure boat gliding across the surface.
The Maitreya Buddha & Suspension Bridge
The lake's most celebrated landmarks frame this vantage: the colossal Maitreya Buddha statue of the Tien Eng Temple complex watches over the water, while the slender Ximaopu Suspension Bridge threads across one of the lake's inlets, a favourite of walkers exploring the shore.
Within Lion's Head Mountain Scenic Area
Set in Emei Township of Hsinchu County, the reservoir anchors the western reaches of the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area. Its lakeside plaza and trails draw visitors year-round, and each spring the golden trumpet trees lining the banks burst into bloom along the water's edge.
