Bee in Ossola Urban Hive Cam

A Hive in the City

This intimate live camera looks inside an urban beehive (an arnia cittadina) installed on the panoramic terrace of the Ossola Outdoor Center in Crevoladossola, at the gateway to Italy's Val d'Ossola.

Bees as Environmental Sentinels

The camera is part of Bee in Ossola, a biomonitoring project developed by the beekeeping company Alveare Ossolano together with the cultural association La Balza. Sensors on the hive track the colony's activity to indirectly monitor the health of the surrounding territory.

A Living Superorganism

Watch worker bees move across the wax comb, capping cells, feeding larvae, and processing nectar in a constant, coordinated division of labor — a rare, close-up window into the everyday life of a honey bee colony.

Environmental Education in the Ossola Valley

Beyond the live feed, the project runs hands-on workshops for schools and community groups, using the hive to teach the Val d'Ossola region about pollinators and biodiversity.
