Fukushima

Location and Geography

Fukushima is one of Japan's largest prefectures, occupying the southern part of the Tohoku region on the island of Honshu. Its territory is conventionally divided into three zones — the coastal Hamadori, the central Nakadori basins, and the mountainous Aizu uplands — giving it a varied landscape of plains, rivers, lakes and forested ranges.

The prefecture is renowned for its abundant hot springs, alpine lakes and volcanic scenery, along with productive farmland that yields peaches, rice and other fruit. Mountain passes, ski slopes and rural valleys make it a popular destination for outdoor recreation across all four seasons.
