A National Natural Monument
To-no-Hetsuri is one of the most celebrated rock landscapes in the Aizu region, protected as a National Natural Monument of Japan. The name refers to the sheer cliffs that resemble a row of towers lining the riverbank.
Sculpted by Water and Time
The ลkawa River has patiently eroded the soft tuff into columnar pinnacles, natural arches and honeycombed hollows. The stratified layers reveal the geological history of this ancient volcanic terrain.
A Scenic Gorge in Shimogo
Set in the town of Shimogo in the mountains of Fukushima, the gorge is a beloved destination for hikers who cross the pedestrian bridge to walk along the narrow rock ledges above the water.
Ever-Changing Natural Beauty
Framed by lush forest, the emerald river and pale rock create a striking contrast that shifts with the seasons, from vivid green foliage to brilliant autumn colours and snow-covered stone.
