Westmoreland Songbird Nest Cam
OnlinePerched inside a wooden nest box on the Westmoreland Land Trust's St. Xavier Nature Preserve, this infrared camera looks straight down into an active songbird cavity. Fledglings rest on a woven cup of grass and twigs, ready to gape toward the entrance whenever a parent arrives with food. Saint Vincent College's Ornithology Program streams the feed for research, education, and public outreach across the restored preserve.
About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
Inside the Nest Box
A compact infrared camera is mounted at the top of a wooden nest box, giving an unobstructed overhead view of the cavity floor. The lens captures every detail of the woven nesting cup below, from stray blades of grass to the comings and goings at the entrance hole.
St. Xavier Nature Preserve
The box sits on the Westmoreland Land Trust's St. Xavier Nature Preserve, a 248-acre property of restored grassland, shrubby edges, and scattered woodland in Unity Township, Pennsylvania. It is one of three live-streamed nest boxes the Trust maintains on the site, alongside a pair of screech-owl boxes nearby.
A Saint Vincent College Research Project
The stream is run by the Ornithology Program at Saint Vincent College, whose faculty and students use the footage for coursework, research, and public outreach. PixCams, Inc. donated the camera and streaming infrastructure that makes the round-the-clock view possible.
