Vulture Feeding Station at Gamla
OnlineAn infrared camera keeps constant watch over a dedicated vulture feeding station on the basalt terrain of Gamla Nature Reserve, in the Golan Heights, where Griffon and Egyptian Vultures gather at a carefully managed, medicine-free food source. Run by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority with the University of Haifa's Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology, the station supports a wider regional vulture-recovery effort, with occasional visits from hooded crows and other raptors.

A Managed Feeding Station
This camera overlooks a vulture feeding station built into the rugged basalt terrain of Gamla Nature Reserve. Food placed here is carefully vetted to be free of veterinary medicines, giving Griffon and Egyptian Vultures a safe, reliable food source away from the risk of toxins found elsewhere in the landscape.
Gamla Nature Reserve
Set in the Golan Heights, Gamla is renowned for its ancient ruins, dramatic waterfall, and thriving colony of raptors nesting on its sheer cliffs. The feeding station sits close to a rehabilitation and release site, forming part of a broader network supporting the region's vulture population.
Conservation in Action
The feed is operated by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority together with the University of Haifa's Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology, part of the "Open Wings" project working to protect vultures that travel from as far as the Carmel, the Negev, and even the Balkans.
What You Will See
Expect Griffon Vultures and Egyptian Vultures feeding at close range, often joined by hooded crows and other opportunistic raptors and egrets sharing the same ground.
