A Living Coral Wall

The exhibit recreates a tropical coral reef ecosystem, with a dense wall of branching and encrusting corals stacked from the sandy floor to the surface. Dozens of coral species share the same rockwork, forming the kind of layered structure found on a real reef.

A Community of Reef Fish

Schools of tropicals — from slender wrasses to brightly patterned damselfish — patrol the coral heads in search of shelter and food. Their constant motion around the reef gives the tank its lively, ever-changing choreography.

Aquarium of the Pacific

Located on the Long Beach waterfront, the Aquarium of the Pacific is one of the largest aquariums in the United States, dedicated to the marine life of the Pacific Ocean. This coral exhibit is part of its broader mission to showcase and protect reef ecosystems.

The camera offers a front-row seat to the intricate relationships between coral and fish, letting viewers observe natural behaviors that would otherwise require a scuba mask and a trip to the reef itself.
