A Predator's Domain
The Shark Lagoon exhibit recreates a tropical reef environment built specifically for elasmobranchs โ sharks and their ray relatives. Blacktip reef sharks and other species patrol the open water column while smaller animals rest along the tank floor, giving viewers an up-close look at species that have roamed the oceans for millions of years.
Built for Observation
Large acrylic viewing panels let the underwater camera capture the full sweep of the enclosure, from the brightly lit surface to the textured rockwork below. Artificial coral and rock formations mimic a natural reef, giving the animals room to patrol, rest, and interact in a setting designed for both animal welfare and public engagement.
Part of a Global Conservation Network
This feed is one of many Aquarium of the Pacific cameras shared through Explore.org's live nature network, connecting viewers worldwide with marine life housed in Long Beach, California. The exhibit supports the aquarium's broader mission of ocean conservation and public education about shark biology.
