A Remote Arctic Heliport

Perched on the rocky shore of Uummannaq Island, Uummannaq Heliport is one of the principal air links serving the isolated communities of northwest Greenland. The gravel apron and painted helipad in the foreground host the helicopters that connect this far-flung settlement to the wider world.

Iceberg-Filled Fjord

Beyond the apron stretches the broad Uummannaq Fjord, where colossal icebergs drift across the deep Arctic water after calving from the region's vast glaciers. The fjord remains one of Greenland's most iconic and photographed seascapes.

Dramatic Mountain Backdrop

Framing the view are sheer flat-topped cliffs and glacier-capped peaks, including the heart-shaped Uummannaq Mountain that gives the town its name. These commanding summits rise more than a thousand metres straight from the sea.
