West Coast Sea Nettles

West Coast sea nettles carry a golden-brown bell that can span more than a foot, trailed by ribbon-like oral arms and stinging tentacles several times that length. They are native to the nutrient-rich waters running along the California coast, where upwelling feeds the plankton blooms these drifters hunt.

A Waterfront Landmark

The aquarium anchors the Rainbow Harbor waterfront in Long Beach, one of the largest public aquariums in the United States and home to thousands of animals from across the vast Pacific basin. Its jelly exhibits are among the most visited displays in the building.
