Popocatépetl South Crater Wall Cam
OnlineA live 4K Ultra HD feed of Popocatépetl captured from the village of San Matías Tlalancaleca, some 30 kilometres from the summit. This wide-angle vantage frames the volcano's south crater wall, where plumes of steam and ash vent from one of North America's most active stratovolcanoes. It is one of several fixed cameras run by the same network to monitor the giant from multiple angles.

A Distant Watch on Popocatépetl
Popocatépetl — "Smoking Mountain" in Nahuatl — rises to 5,426 metres, the second-highest peak in Mexico and one of the most closely monitored volcanoes on the continent. This 4K Ultra HD feed keeps a steady eye on the giant from a safe distance, tracking its near-constant emissions of ash and gas.
The San Matías Tlalancaleca Vantage
Positioned in the town of San Matías Tlalancaleca, roughly 30 kilometres northwest of the crater, this camera is one of a comprehensive multi-cam network trained on the volcano from several distinct angles. The added distance offers a broader, calmer perspective than the close-range views mounted nearer the summit.
The South Crater Wall
The angle and distance combine to reveal the inside of the south crater wall, where steam and ash plumes vent skyward. The snow-streaked upper slopes stand out against the surrounding pine-clad foothills of the Puebla highlands.
A Living, Storied Landscape
The volcano's flanks lie within a protected national park, home to diverse wildlife and dense pine forest nourished by volcanic soil. To the north, the twin peak Iztaccíhuatl is linked to Popocatépetl by the Paso de Cortés saddle, a pairing woven into Aztec legend as two eternal lovers.
