Pietraporzio Riverside Alpine Village

A Stone Village in the Maritime Alps

The camera frames Pietraporzio, a tightly clustered mountain village in the Province of Cuneo, set at roughly 1,246 metres above sea level. Its slate-roofed houses, narrow lanes and a tall parish church bell tower form a classic western Alpine hamlet.

The Stura di Demonte River

In the foreground the Stura di Demonte river pools into turquoise water before a low weir, crossed by a slender pedestrian bridge. The waterway has shaped this glacial valley for millennia and remains its defining natural feature.

Steep forested slopes rise on both flanks toward the high ridges of the Cottian and Maritime Alps. The surrounding Valle Stura is laced with hiking and cycling routes linking remote refuges and high mountain pasture.

Gateway to a Protected Wilderness

Pietraporzio sits near the Maritime Alps Natural Park, one of Piedmont's richest areas for alpine flora and wildlife. The village is a quiet base camp for exploring one of Italy's most unspoilt mountain frontiers.
