The Live View
The camera overlooks the upper Stura di Demonte valley from the village of Argentera, the highest municipality in the valley. Forested slopes of larch and pine rise toward snow-capped peaks along the Italian-French watershed, while a wide green alpine meadow fills the valley floor.
Argentera and the Maritime Alps
Sitting close to the Colle della Maddalena pass into France, Argentera is a tiny high-altitude commune in the southern Piedmontese Alps. Its name recalls the silver-mining history of these mountains, still echoed in the village coat of arms.
Nature and Wildlife
The surrounding slopes shelter classic alpine wildlife such as marmots, chamois and golden eagles, with hardy meadows and conifer woods typical of the high Alps.
Things to Do
The area is a base for hiking and trekking, mountain biking and ski touring, and lies on the scenic road over the Maddalena pass linking Piedmont with the French Ubaye valley.
