Our Lady of Lourdes Altar

A Century-Old Parish Sanctuary

Founded in 1912, the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes & St Joseph serves the seaside town of Leigh-on-Sea, part of Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England. This camera keeps a steady, unmoving watch over the high altar, the focal point of every Mass and private prayer offered inside the building.

Carved Reredos and Sacred Imagery

Behind the altar rises an elaborately carved wooden reredos, framing gilded panels of an adoring angel and an evangelist at his writing desk beneath a hanging sanctuary lamp. The dark oak choir stalls and pulpit on either side, banked with tiered wooden pews, complete a classic English Catholic interior.

Marble Altar and Liturgical Furnishings

A pale marble altar table stands on a raised stone predella, dressed with an embroidered antependium and flanked by a set of tall brass candlesticks. A canopied tabernacle with a suspended pyx marks the place of reservation, while potted palms soften the stone steps leading up from the nave.
