The Heart of the Turiec Region

Set in a broad valley between the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra ranges, Martin is the cultural capital of the Turiec region. The camera captures its compact centre, from the theatre square to the seat of the Slovak National Library, a town long associated with Slovak literature and national heritage.

The town's most recognisable landmark, the white-towered Church of St Martin, anchors the view with its tapering spire and clock face. Around it, the layered roofs of the old town spread across the slope, a typical silhouette of a central European market town.

Mountain Backdrop

Behind Martin, the forested ridges of the Malá Fatra climb toward the summit of Kriváň and the slopes of the Martinky ski area. This dramatic alpine frame makes the panorama as much about nature as it is about the town itself.
