The Heart of Trenčín
Mierové námestie (Peace Square) is the elongated, pedestrianised main square of Trenčín, a city in western Slovakia on the Váh River. Lined with colourful burgher houses, cafés and fountains, it has been the civic and social stage of the town for centuries.
The Piarist Church
The square's western side is dominated by the Piarist Church of St. Francis Xavier, a Baroque jewel whose twin onion-domed towers rise above the rooftops. Its richly decorated interior makes it one of the region's most admired sacred buildings.
Trenčín Castle
Crowning the rocky hill above the rooftops, Trenčín Castle is one of the largest castles in Slovakia. Its Matthew's Tower and the Roman inscription of A.D. 179 make the fortress a monumental backdrop to everyday life on the square.
