A Sycamore-Top Eagle Nest
High above the Potomac River valley, this camera looks straight down into a bald eagle nest built roughly 85 feet up a sycamore tree. The resident pair rebuilt here after a storm toppled their original, decades-old nest nearby.
A Season of Nesting Behavior
Each year the eagles add fresh sticks and soft grass, incubate their eggs, and feed the eaglets that hatch. The downward angle reveals details rarely seen from the ground, including feeding, preening, and sheltering behaviors.
Part of a Conservation Mission
The nest sits on the campus of the National Conservation Training Center, run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service near Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The feed supports public education about raptor conservation.
