The Western Terminus

Perched at the seaward end of the West Somerset Railway, Minehead Station is the bustling main terminus of England's longest standard-gauge heritage line. The camera looks east along the running lines toward the Seaward Crossing, where road and rail meet beneath the watchful signal cabin.

A Living Heritage Railway

Restored and run largely by volunteers, the West Somerset Railway stretches roughly twenty miles through the Somerset countryside. Preserved steam and heritage diesel locomotives, vintage carriages and goods wagons populate the scene, a tribute to fifty years of dedicated preservation.

Trainspotting at the Crossing

This is a classic trainspotting vantage: signals, point work and the manually operated level crossing all sit in frame. Enthusiasts can follow shunting moves, watch locomotives run round their trains and catch departures heading inland toward Bishops Lydeard.

Exploring Minehead

Beyond the rails, Minehead is a popular Exmoor coastal town on the Bristol Channel, known for its long seafront, the start of the South West Coast Path and a gateway to Exmoor National Park.
