Lola ya Bonobo Sanctuary
Founded by Claudine Andrรฉ, Lola ya Bonobo โ meaning "paradise for bonobos" in Lingala โ is the only sanctuary in the world devoted to the species. Spread across forested grounds near Kinshasa, it provides lifelong care and a pathway toward eventual rewilding.
An Endangered Great Ape
Found only in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bonobos share roughly 98.7% of their DNA with humans and are renowned for their peaceful, matriarchal societies. Habitat loss and poaching make every rescued individual vital to the species' survival.
