The Sanctuary
Lola ya Bonobo โ meaning "paradise for bonobos" in Lingala โ is the only sanctuary in the world devoted entirely to bonobos, the great ape found exclusively in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Founded by Friends of Bonobos, it provides a protected forest home for orphans rescued from the illegal bushmeat and pet trade.
What You'll See
The camera overlooks a grassy clearing fringed by dense equatorial woodland where individuals gather around feeding logs. Bonobos are remarkably social, and the feed captures their play, grooming, foraging, and the close-knit bonds that define their matriarchal groups.
Why Bonobos Matter
Sharing roughly 98.7% of human DNA, bonobos are among our closest living relatives, renowned for resolving conflict through cooperation rather than aggression. The sanctuary's mission blends rehabilitation, eventual rewilding, and conservation education to safeguard this endangered species.
