A Rare Woodland Raptor
The Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina) is a shy forest-dwelling raptor that migrates thousands of kilometres between Europe and Africa. This nest lies within the Murmastiene monitoring site, a dedicated eagle study area in the forests of central Latvia.
An Oak-Top Nest with History
The nest was originally built by a pair of Black Storks and has since hosted different species, including a successful Eurasian Buzzard brood. Its elevated oak-crown position gives a close, unobstructed view of every arrival, feeding, and quiet moment.
Managed by Latvia's State Forests
The camera is operated by Latvijas valsts meลพi (Latvia's State Forests) as part of their long-running wildlife conservation and research programme, letting viewers worldwide follow the fortunes of these protected birds.
A Living Boreal Woodland
Surrounding the nest stretches a dense coniferous and mixed forest near the village of Barkava, a quiet corner of the Latvian countryside that shelters an abundance of woodland wildlife beyond the eagles themselves.
