Hiyoshi Dam & Forested Valley
OnlineThis live camera overlooks the towering concrete face of Hiyoshi Dam, set within a deep forested valley along the Katsura River. Mist-wrapped, densely wooded mountains rise on every side, while the road station and campground of Springs Hiyoshi sit just below the dam wall. It is a tranquil showcase of rural Japan where engineering meets pristine nature.
About This Webcam
Everything you need to know about this live stream
The Hiyoshi Dam
The cam frames the massive concrete gravity dam that holds back the Katsura River, a flood-control and water-supply structure that anchors this stretch of the valley. Its broad spillway and curving access road are visible against the wall of green hills behind.
A Forested Mountain Valley
Surrounding the reservoir, steeply wooded ridges climb in layered greens, often draped with low-hanging mist that drifts between the peaks. The dense forest of Nantan gives the scene a secluded, wild character typical of inland Kyoto.
Springs Hiyoshi Resort
Directly below the dam sits Springs Hiyoshi, a roadside station and camping & spa resort with natural hot springs, a farmers' market, and riverside BBQ areas. The viewpoint captures both the engineered dam and the leisure grounds in one sweeping frame.
Nature Through the Seasons
This corner of the Woodland Kyoto region transforms with each season โ cherry blossoms, lush summer greenery, fiery autumn foliage, and snow-dusted peaks. The shallow Katsura River threads through the foreground, a living ribbon below the dam.
