A Sanctuary for Griffon and Egyptian Vultures
This feeding station on the slopes of Mount Carmel offers Griffon Vultures and the increasingly rare Egyptian Vulture a clean, medicine-free carcass source, reducing the risk of poisoning that threatens wild raptor populations across the region.
A Regional Crossroads for Raptors
Vultures traveling from the Golan Heights, the Judean Desert, and the Negev converge here, with occasional visitors reported from as far as the Balkans, making the site a valuable crossroads for observing wide-ranging scavenger movements.
Shared with Crows and Jackals
Beyond vultures, the feeding ground attracts hooded crows, black crows, and other raptors, while golden jackals often slip in to scavenge alongside the birds on the open, rugged hillside.
A Conservation Partnership
Maintained by the Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology (University of Haifa) in full cooperation with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the site supports rehabilitation and release efforts for vultures recovering from injury or poisoning.
