Everything you need to know about this live stream
A living coastal wetland
Gaomei Wetland (Gaomei Wildlife Refuge) spreads across roughly 700 hectares of mudflats, sandbars and reed marsh where the Dajia River meets the Taiwan Strait. The mix of freshwater and saltwater creates an exceptionally rich intertidal ecosystem in Qingshui District.
The iconic boardwalk and Sky Mirror
A raised wooden boardwalk carries visitors out over the flats without disturbing the fragile habitat. When a shallow film of water rests on the mud, it mirrors the sky so perfectly that Gaomei has earned its nickname as the โSky Mirror of Taiwan,โ a must-see stop on any central-Taiwan itinerary.
Wind turbines and the Qingshui coast
A striking row of wind turbines lines the shoreline behind the reserve, part of one of Taiwan's largest onshore wind corridors. Their slow-turning blades have become an emblematic backdrop to the wetland and a landmark for the surrounding Qingshui coastline.
A haven for birds and rare plants
The refuge shelters more than 120 recorded bird species, including migratory waterfowl that pause here on the East AsianโAustralasian Flyway. Salt-tolerant Bolboschoenus reeds and fiddler crabs thrive across the flats, making Gaomei a prized destination for birdwatchers and naturalists.
