A Legendary High-Mountain Shelter
The Refugio Diego Mella, universally known as Collado Jermoso, sits on a narrow saddle above 1,950 metres in the Cantabrian Mountains. Reachable only on foot after a demanding ascent, it is one of the most iconic and remote refuges in Spain, a base camp for those exploring the wildest corners of the range.
The Heart of Picos de Europa
The camera surveys the Central and Eastern massifs, a labyrinth of jagged limestone towers, deep gorges and glacial cirques. This is the protected core of Picos de Europa National Park, the first national park declared in Spain and a refuge for chamois, griffon vultures and the rare brown bear.
A Hub for Climbers and Hikers
Collado Jermoso is a celebrated launchpad for mountaineering routes toward Pico Gilbo, the Espigüete and the classic traverse of the famous Cares Gorge. The view captures the ever-changing mountain sky that rolls across these summits, a spectacle prized by alpinists and nature lovers alike.
