A Coral Haven on Green Island's Shore

Chaikou Snorkeling Cove sits on the sheltered side of Lüdao, the volcanic island Taiwan calls Green Island, just off the Taitung coast in the Pacific. The cove's naturally calm waters make it one of the island's most accessible entry points for exploring its coral-rich shoreline.

Layered Reef and Coral Formations

The seabed here forms a reef platform between the shore and an offshore ridge, its surface covered in clumping and encrusting stony corals that create a richly textured underwater landscape. The intertidal zone reveals a further layer of marine life along the rocky shelf at the water's edge.

A Gateway for Snorkelers and Divers

Maintained by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration, the cove is a favored starting point for both first-time snorkelers and experienced divers exploring Green Island's volcanic coastline. A walking trail along the shore lets visitors observe intertidal creatures such as sea urchins and starfish up close.
