The White-Tailed Eagles of Smøla
This camera watches over the territory of Baron Blue and Baroness Barfoot, a resident pair of white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) that have nested on Smøla across several seasons. The species is Europe's largest bird of prey, with a wingspan that can exceed two metres.
The Coastal Perch
A bleached driftwood perch in the foreground is a favourite lookout for the eagles, set against a rugged archipelago of low rocky islets, sheltered sounds and open heath along the edge of the Norwegian Sea. From here the birds scan the open water for prey.
A Stronghold for Sea Eagles
Smøla is renowned for holding one of the highest densities of white-tailed eagles in the world. The surrounding waters are rich in fish and seabirds, providing the abundant hunting grounds these powerful raptors depend on.
Watching the Territory
Viewers from around the world have followed the Streambird eagles for several seasons. This wide coastal view complements the close nest cameras, framing passing seabirds, perching raptors and the ever-changing tides.
