An Unlikely Wildlife Refuge

The Raccoon Saloon began as an ordinary hunting camp in rural Maine, used only a few times a year by a group of out-of-state hunters. As visits grew rare, the property was left quietly abandoned — and a resourceful family of wild raccoons moved in, claiming every corner of the farmhouse and its grounds as their own.

A Roaming View of the Back Meadow

Mounted to sweep across the rear of the property, this pan-tilt-zoom camera follows a pair of weathered apple trees standing alone in an open meadow. A thick treeline marks the edge of the surrounding woods, the raccoons' main route between the farmhouse and the forest beyond.

Where the Woods Meet the Yard

This wide-open clearing gives the camera's roaming lens plenty of room to track movement, from a lone fox slipping along the treeline to raccoons crossing the grass toward the den trees deeper in the woods.

Part of a Larger Network

The back meadow view is just one of many fixed cameras placed around the Raccoon Saloon grounds, each watching a different room or corner of the property. Together they let viewers follow the resident raccoons as they explore, forage, and settle into their unusual rural home.
