Location and Geography

The province of León sits in the northwest of Castilla y León, where the agricultural plateau gives way to the rugged Cantabrian Mountains along its northern border. Rivers such as the Esla and the Bernesga descend through fertile valleys toward the lowlands.

Once the heart of the medieval Kingdom of León, the province preserves a deep historical legacy, and the French Way of the Camino de Santiago crosses it, drawing pilgrims through its towns and hostels. The capital city of León anchors this heritage.
