The Central Coast

Da Nang sits halfway down the country, where the Truong Son mountains come close to the sea. North of the city, the Hai Van Pass climbs over a spur of the range that marks a climate divide between north and south. To the south lie the old port town of Hoi An and the limestone Marble Mountains.

Street Life in Hai Chau

All of the cameras are in Hai Chau, the district of offices, markets and hospitals on the west bank of the Han River. They look down on a busy crossing, the back gate of Hospital C, the gate of the Nguyen Hue school at the start and end of classes, and a building site at Da Nang Hospital. Motorbikes fill every frame, in waves that follow the rhythm of the working day.

Typhoon Season

Central Vietnam gets most of its rain between September and December, when typhoons from the South China Sea can bring floods. The dry months, from February to August, bring hot, bright days to the city streets.
