U.S. Virgin Islands

Islands on the Edge of the Caribbean

The U.S. Virgin Islands lie about 65 kilometres east of Puerto Rico, where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea. St. Thomas and St. John sit side by side in the north, while larger and flatter St. Croix lies alone to the south.

What the Cameras Show

Most webcams look over St. John: the harbour and beach bars of Cruz Bay, the car barges crossing Pillsbury Sound, the sheltered anchorage of Coral Bay and the beaches of Maho and Cinnamon bays, inside the Virgin Islands National Park, which covers more than half the island. On St. Croix, cameras frame the sailboats of Christiansted harbour, below its Danish colonial buildings, and the beaches near Frederiksted.

Weather Worth Watching

Trade winds keep the air warm all year, and the light changes fast as showers cross the channels. From June to November the same views become an early sign of the hurricane season, when swell and cloud bands reach the bays hours before a storm.
