Perched above the villa La Jolla Caribe in Catherineberg, this camera commands a commanding vista over the protected bays of Virgin Islands National Park. The vantage stitches together forested hillsides, white-sand crescents and the open Caribbean Sea in a single uninterrupted sweep.

Cinnamon Bay & Francis Bay

Below the ridgeline, Cinnamon Bay stretches as the longest beach on St. John, while neighbouring Francis Bay offers a sheltered anchorage favoured by sailors. Coral gardens and seagrass meadows give the shallows their distinctive jade and sapphire bands.

Islands on the Horizon

Across the channel rise the British Virgin Islands — the rounded silhouette of Jost Van Dyke and the longer ridge of Tortola — a reminder of how tightly the Virgin Islands cluster together in this storied corner of the eastern Caribbean.

A Protected Landscape

Most of what fills the frame lies within Virgin Islands National Park, which safeguards more than half of St. John. The undeveloped hillsides and pristine beaches showcase the island much as early visitors would have found it.
