Everything you need to know about this live stream
The Heart of Kusatsu Onsen
The Yubatake, literally the hot-water field, is the symbolic center of Kusatsu Onsen in the highlands of Gunma. Around 4,000 liters of mineral-laden water surge from the source each minute, cooling as they flow so the famously hot spring can be enjoyed in the town's baths.
Wooden Yudoi and the Yutaki Cascade
Long wooden troughs called yudoi channel the water across the field before it spills over the Yutaki waterfall. This traditional system both cools the water and harvests yunohana, the prized mineral sediment left behind on the timber.
A Storied Hot-Spring Town
Ringed by historic ryokan inns, bathhouses and souvenir streets, the Yubatake anchors one of Japan's three great hot springs. Visitors stroll its stone promenade and railings to admire the endlessly rising steam.
