A Nest Above an Old Factory Chimney

The storks of Wittgensdorf have built their nest roughly 28 meters up an old industrial chimney on a former factory site. Generations of white storks have returned to this same platform, turning an aging piece of industrial architecture into a thriving breeding site.

An Environmental Education Project

This webcam is part of Storch-Watching, an environmental education initiative launched by Regenbogenbus e.V. in cooperation with the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment. The project lets students and the public follow the storks' behavior without disturbing them.

A Long-Distance, Silent Watch

The camera is mounted on the local church tower, about 165 meters from the nest, keeping a respectful distance from these wild birds. Because of the distance, the stream carries no audio, letting viewers observe the storks' natural behavior undisturbed.

Across the breeding season, the platform offers a rare window into nest-building, incubation, and chick-rearing, showing the full arc of a stork family's life in Wittgensdorf, a district of Chemnitz in Saxony.
