A Refuge for the Oriental White Stork
The Kลnotori-no-Sato Stork Village in Noda is a flagship reintroduction reserve for the Oriental white stork, a species that once vanished from the Japanese countryside. Bred and released here, the tall, black-and-white birds now forage across the surrounding wetlands.
Wetlands and Rice-Paddy Habitat
The reserve recreates the satoyama landscape the storks depend on โ a mosaic of flooded paddies, reed beds and grassland teeming with the frogs, loach and insects that feed a growing colony.
Breeding and Chick Monitoring
This monitoring camera lets researchers and visitors follow the storks' nesting and chick-rearing without disturbing them, part of a wider citizen-science effort coordinated with the city of Noda.
Conservation and Community
Run under Noda's stork-recovery programme, the sanctuary blends ecological restoration with public education, turning a quiet corner of the Kantล plain into a symbol of returning wildlife.
