A Heritage Line in the Pennines
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is a standard-gauge heritage branch line climbing through the South Pennines between Keighley and Oxenhope. Preserved and operated almost entirely by volunteers, it keeps a working timetable of steam and heritage diesel services running on original Victorian infrastructure.
Haworth's South Approach
This trackside view sits just south of Haworth station, close to the line's main locomotive maintenance depot. From here the double track sweeps away through a wooded cutting and over a stone footbridge, giving a clear, uninterrupted look at every train as it departs toward Oxenhope.
Brontรซ Country Backdrop
Haworth itself, a short walk from this spot, is the moorland village forever linked with the Brontรซ sisters, and the railway has doubled for countless film and television productions thanks to its unspoiled period character. Stone terraces and gritstone walls frame the line on both sides.
A Screen-Famous Branch Line
Beyond its role in local heritage, the K&WVR is internationally known as the setting of The Railway Children, and its five and a half miles remain one of the most complete examples of a Victorian rural branch line anywhere in England.
