The Needles & Its Lighthouse
Three jagged chalk stacks rise some 30 metres from the sea off the island's western point, ending at the red-and-white Needles Lighthouse. The formation once counted a fourth pillar, the fabled Lot's Wife, long since lost to the waves.
Alum Bay's Coloured Cliffs
The bay is world-renowned for its multicoloured sand cliffs and a historic chairlift that carries visitors down to the shore. The surrounding headland is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
A Wind-Swept Headland
Exposed to the full force of the English Channel, this coast regularly records some of the UK's strongest winds. The National Coastwatch Institution keeps a lookout from the clifftop battery above.
Watching the Solent
The camera looks out across the busy Solent shipping lanes, a living seascape of ferries, yachts and the ever-changing tides between the island and the English mainland.
