A Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary
Stormy Oaks Nature Conservancy sits on 14 acres of farmland in Butler County, western Pennsylvania, and is home to Wildbird Recovery, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitating injured songbirds, swifts, swallows, and birds of prey.
An Artificial Chimney Built for Swifts
This camera looks down inside a purpose-built wooden tower that mimics the hollow chimneys Chimney Swifts have relied on since old-growth trees with natural cavities grew scarce. The tower has hosted nesting pairs every year since 2011.
Life Inside the Nest
Chimney Swifts cannot perch on branches โ their stiff-legged feet are built only to cling to vertical surfaces. Nests are woven from twigs gathered in flight and cemented to the wall with sticky saliva, and extra "helper" swifts often assist the parents in raising the young.
An Educational Partnership
The feed is produced with PixCams and the Ornithology Program at Saint Vincent College, giving students, researchers, and the public a rare window into one of the few cameras in the country monitoring this declining species.
